The tomato hornworm is uncommon in the Southeast and is replaced by the
tobacco hornworm
Though considered a common garden pest, tobacco hornworm can cause significant economic damage to tobacco crops and occasionally tomato and potato crops. Larvae may feed on unripe, green fruit, leaving large wounds and exposing the fruit to opportunistic plant pathogens (Figure10) (Cranshaw 2004).
